We can say that they are Ogasawara Islands to Japan as the Pelagie Islands are to Italy. These are located 90 km south of Sicily and only 70 km from Tunisia. What
centered the Ogasawara Islands Pelagie with? Nothing but both have something in common: they are in a very decentralized compared to their respective country and thus have a society and a totally different from that of Italy or Japan.
But now we come to Ogasawara. This archipelago, composed primarily of uninhabited islands (hence the alternative name of Bonin Islands, "without people " ) is more than 1000 km south of Tokyo in the Pacific Ocean. These volcanic islands along the subduction zone between the Pacific and the Eurasian plate.
From administrative point of view can be found under the government of Tokyo, but only two islands are inhabited island of the Father (Chichi jima) and the island of Mother (Haha jima), and can be reached by ferry, which takes about 25 hours from Tokyo. The islands in fact do not have an airport, mainly for the will to preserve their precious natural environment.
why these islands are so important. We can say that they are a bit 'Galapagos of Japan, given their great biodiversity and their natural environment preserved (on the islands is home to over 500 species of tropical plants). For example, here are several species of birds not found elsewhere, and have been seen several specimens of giant squid .
Among other interesting facts about these remote islands, to be mentioned is the curious Bonin dialect spoken by few people who live there, mostly old people. It is a sort of English mixed with Japanese, since the first settlers who inhabited the area were Americans.
Also, in some film adaptations of the film Godzilla , the terrifying monster seems to have been hiding on this island just before invading Japan.
